Thelymitra ixioides (Spotted Sun-orchid)

Family Orchidaceae

This beautiful orchid is quite common in bushland. The flower stalk is up to 50cm long, and arises from a single, narrow grey-green leaf. Flowers are lilac to bright blue, and usually have a few spots on the upper three flower segments.

Habitat: sandstone soils, in open forest and heath, slightly moist positions.

Flowering: Spring

Distribution: Widespread in Sydney, also in the rest of the state except the dry west, and all other states except the Northern Territory; also New Zealand and New Caledonia.
